Flowers are blooming and garage doors are opening — where are you headed?

 

May is blos­som­ing with all kinds of car shows — tru­ly a sign of the sea­son begin­ning in earnest. Take in the stu­dent car shows and encour­age the kids while hav­ing a dose of fun and rem­i­nisc­ing. May still has many swaps avail­able for shop­ping and sell­ing, and of course, swap­ping tales.

Com­ing up — the only auc­tion in May-June promis­es to be the most unique — the LeMay Fam­i­ly Col­lec­tion hosts the vin­tage truck auc­tion June 2. It includes shed­ding some ton­nage of Harold’s col­lec­tion plus many oth­er trucks of all kinds at Lucky Car Auc­tions, imme­di­ate­ly the day after the Amer­i­can Truck His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety’s Nation­al Meet in Yaki­ma, WA.  Your pick­up (or any truck — or col­lec­tor car) is wel­comed to sell, or plan to take one home as a dri­ver project PU.

So where to go?

Try this sam­pling:  begin­ning with the first week­end of May fea­tures the Wasil­la High School Show-N-Shine , the 28th Annu­al Classy Chas­sis Parade & Car Show in Wenatchee on May 3–4 and Alas­ka Cus­tom Car & Cycle Show same week­end. Note the date change to May 3–4 for the Red Deer Swap Meet (403 896 1735) in Alberta.

 

Some­thing total­ly unique is the Vin­tage Trav­el Trail­er & Motorhome Camp Out (253 335 1500) at Triple XXX - Issaquah on May 4.  Sup­port the ben­e­fit Cruise the Ave So They Shall Walk in Shore­line, WA on May 5.

 

On May 9,  the CPTC Motor­Sports Auto Club hosts the 21st Clover Park Tech­ni­cal Col­lege Peo­ples Choice Car & Bike Show in Lake­view, WA (253 589 5608) while the week­end of May 10–12 will see the 14th Annu­al Classy Chas­sy Show & Shine in Ken­newick and 20th Annu­al Car Show and Swap Meet in Omak, WA  May 10–12 (509 826 3154 or See Facebook)

 

May 11 is not only Moth­er’s Day but  a busy car day from Merid­i­an ID with the The Big Guys Reunion Show & Shine (208 250 8507-See Face­book) the May 11 — Bethel Boost­er Show ‘n Shine 2013 (541 688 4488) in Eugene, OR, and the 2013 PTW Spring Clas­sic at Port­land Trans­mis­sion Ware­house;  Be Lucky in Taco­ma, WA for Lucky Sil­ver’s 9th Annu­al Car Show & Cruise In (253 472 0360)and in Wal­lace ID, Depot Day Clas­sic Car and Motor­cy­cle Show is a fundrais­er for the North­ern Pacif­ic Depot Museum .

Remem­ber your youth — those Sat­ur­day nights on the bench seats — snug­gling up with your favorite guy or girl — pop­corn and sodas — movies you may or may not have actu­al­ly watched? There are still four dri­ve-ins sur­viv­ing in Wash­ing­ton State. This may change dra­mat­i­cal­ly unless we lend a hand.

The Sky­line Dri­ve-In, locat­ed just out­side of Olympia, was opened in 1964.  Along with cur­rent Hol­ly­wood hits the the­ater has sev­er­al spe­cial events such as the Sing-A-Long ver­sion of Grease that was shown last year.  At this time the Sky­line is work­ing to raise $40,000 to upgrade from the cur­rent 35mm film pro­jec­tor to a new state-of-the-art dig­i­tal pro­jec­tor.  The show must go on but to do so we must upgrade imme­di­ate­ly!  If you would like to help the Sky­line reach its 50th anniver­sary in 2014, please vis­it SkylineDrive-In.com for a link to our Kick­starter fund­ing campaign.

Truck enthusiasts: Mark your calendars for these unique events:

The Amer­i­can Truck His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety’s Antique Truck Show and Nation­al Con­ven­tion will be host­ed by the Yaki­ma ATHS Chap­ter May 30-June 1. Details at ATHS.

On Sun­day, June 2, LeMay Fam­i­ly Col­lec­tion at Mary­mount will host the Lucky Car Auc­tion with the first ever antique truck auc­tion.  Truck own­ers will be com­ing from all over the US.

Since Harold LeMay was famous for his love of trucks, in addi­tion to the cars, this is a nat­ur­al fit and will be a great oppor­tu­ni­ty to see not only the LeMay trucks, but many more. Details of the auc­tion avail­able soon at Lucky Car Auc­tions.

Vin­tage Motor­cy­cle Enthu­si­asts will be pre­sent­ing the  Inau­gur­al “Mary­mount Motor­cy­cle Show” on June 10–16 (last day of show  is Father’s Day).  Over 200 vin­tage motor­cy­cles to be  dis­played for the dura­tion of the show with a road run and show ‘n’ shine on Sat­ur­day.
