April 2014

Spring Is Here & Car Season Is In Full Swing

Now that winter is officially over and the ever-present winter storms are finally beginning to take a back seat to tulips, daffodils and an increasing number of sunny days, it is apparent that the car show, swap meet and cruise-in season is hitting its stride.  The month began with two of the biggest parts swap meets on the West coast — the Portland Swap Meet and the Portland International Raceway Swap Meet. Together, the combined meets featured over 5,000 vendor stalls and attracted some 50,000+ buyers and gawkers. Among the interesting and fun goings on were two Northwest authors, David Dickinson and Lance Lambert.

Dave DickensonDavid  was on hand selling and autographing his book, “The Old Car Nut Book”. It’s a collection of stories submitted by car owners around the country, including a few written by Dave. Get one. It will remind you of why we all love old cars so much… and it is a fun read for those rainy nights when we can’t cruise the main drag of town in our collector cars. If you didn’t make the Portland meet, Dave also has books for sale on Amazon: www.amazon.com/The-Old-Car-Nut-Book/dp/0989806502/

lance lambert
Another great read, is “Fenders, Fins & Friends — Confessions of a Car Guy” by noted TV personality and author, Lance Lambert, who was also at Portland. For over 20 years, Lance has been the host of The Vintage Vehicle Show, and along the way has rubbed his automotive shoulders with Jay Leno, Lee Iaccoca, George Barris while producing great TV and collecting plenty of automotive experiences.  In his new book, Lance writes about his adventures with cars from the time he was a teen up until the present day.  It is a great collection of stories and is also available from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Fenders-Fins-Friends-Confessions-Car/dp/0984489878

l lemay-acm-opening-mbc-marquee-02.jpgIn other car event news, don’t miss the Cruise In at the LeMay-America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, WA, This April 10th.  You can join other car enthusiasts in selecting a People’s Choice Award as you show off your ride or just check out the show held on the grounds. While you’re there, take some time to roam America’s Car Museum’s exhibits and participate in the interactive zones. For more info: www.lemaymuseum.org or call 253.779.8490.

Ford GTOver at the Woodburn Drag Strip (Woodburn, OR) they are honoring the fabulous Ford Mustang with the Mustang 50th Anniversary Parade on April 12th. This promises to be a great event for Mustang enthusiasts as the organizers hope to break the world record for the number of Mustangs in a parade. For more info: www.mustangparade.com or call 971.266.3673.

Canada flagOur neighbors to North also have some fun automotive meets coming up. This April 13th in Maple Ridge, BC is the 33rd Annual Maple Ridge Spring Swap Meet, being held at the Maple Ridge Fairgrounds. Admission is just $2. For info, call 604.941.7791.

Over in Saanichton (also on the 13th) is the Restoration Fair, held at Heritage Acres. Admission is just $3 and the event is sponsored by the Old English Car Club. Remember if you are crossing the border, to have your passport, driver’s license, and car insurance papers in order before you go. For info: www.oecc.ca/event_ads/2014_Resto_Fair_Poster.pdf .

There’s plenty more events happening here in the Pacific Northwest and we’ll post some more happenings later in the month.  We also want to apologize for not updating the site sooner, but life sometimes has a way of getting in the way of work.  Monthly updates and so on will be current soon. Our registration link is still not properly working so if you have events or updates of events to post, email us:  nwcarevents (at) AutoWord.net. Be sure to include the date, location, name of event, address and contact info (phone/email/website, plus a brief description of any vital info such as admission/entry/vendor fees).
