Pacif­ic North­west His­torics Lead July Events

The 2014 SOVREN Pacif­ic North­west His­torics run this week­end, July 4–6, start­ing off the month of July with a plen­ty of auto­mo­tive excite­ment. Just the thing to put you in the mood for Inde­pen­dence Day!

The week­end promis­es to be the vin­tage thrill of the year —  three days of vin­tage rac­ing at Pacif­ic Race­ways, in Kent, WA. Fri­day, July 4 sees a half day of rac­ing, Sat­ur­day and Sun­day each offer a full day of rac­ing for vin­tage sports and for­mu­la cars.

Ford’s leg­endary Mus­tang is the fea­tured mar­que this year and sev­er­al of the fastest road Mus­tangs in the North­west will be on track, test­ing them­selves against very fast Corvettes, Camaros, and oth­er mus­cle cars of the late 60’s. A full slate of races will fea­ture a wide range of sports and for­mu­la cars from the 50s right through the late 80s.    As a spe­cial guest, leg­endary oval, road, and off-road dri­ver Par­nel­li Jones will be hon­ored. He will make appear­ances and sign auto­graphs each day.

This is the 27th edi­tion of this very pop­u­lar event which ben­e­fits Seattle’s Children’s Hos­pi­tal. Tick­ets are avail­able at the gate or online at North­west historics.com.

79-US Flag Waving

Our nation­al hol­i­day also sees a num­ber of oth­er auto­mo­tive events around the North­west. In Auburn, WA this first week­end of July is the Auburn 4th of July Car Show. The is free for spec­ta­tors and takes place at Les Gove Park, 1005 12th St. For more info: www.auburn.gov/events .
On Bain­bridge Island the Annu­al 4th of July Car Show takes place in down­town Winslow. It is free to attend and is just a quick fer­ry boat ride from Seat­tle (and a short walk!) from the Bain­bridge Island Fer­ry Ter­mi­nal. For more info: www.bainbridgechamber.com .Up on the North­ern bor­der, the city of Blaine, WA is host­ing an Old Fash­ioned 4th Show ‘N Shine on H Street in down­town Blaine. It is anoth­er free fam­i­ly fun event. For more info: www.blainechamber.com/events .
Over in Clark Coun­ty, WA, the city of Ridge­field is host­ing the North­west Street Rod Nation­als Plus at the Clark Coun­ty Events Cen­ter. It’s $14 to spec­tate and $40 to reg­is­ter a car for the event. For more info: www.nsra-usa.com .79-US Flag Waving
On July 5th there is also plen­ty to do.  Over in Port­land, OR, the High­way to Heav­en Car Show takes place at the Sky­line Memo­r­i­al Gar­dens, 4101 NW Sky­line Blvd. The event runs from 4pm-10pm and is free. For more info: www.skylinememorial/portland.com .
The Com­mu­ni­ty Days Show-N-Shine is being held in down­town Gold­en­dale, WA in the 100 block of W. Main St. The event is free for spec­ta­tors, $10 is you want to show your vehi­cle. It is spon­sored by the Gold­en­dale Motor­sports Asso­ci­a­tion. For more info: www.goldendalemotorsports.org .
In Hoquiam, WA the PushRods Car Club is spon­sor­ing the Pushrods of Hoquiam River­side Run Revival on Lev­ee St. in Old Town Hoquiam. Spec­tat­ing is free but it is $10 to enter a car in the show.  For more info: http://pushrods.org .The 22nd Annu­al Bow-Tie Bash is being held on Com­merce Avenue in down­town Longview, WA, and is spon­sored by the Colum­bia Riv­er Corvettes.  It starts at 9:00am and runs until 3:00pm. Show & Shine At The Shores is being held in Ocean Shores, WA at the Quinalt Beach Resort and Casi­no. Spon­sored by the PushRods Car Club. The event runs from Noon to 8:00pm on Sat­ur­day and from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Sun­day. For more info: http://pushrods.org .
Up in Sur­rey, BC the 14th Annu­al Clas­sic & Cus­tom Car Show for Parkin­sons is at the A&W New­ton Restau­rant (7330 King George Blvd). Free to attend but and $2(CN)  reg­is­tra­tion fee to exhib­it your machine. Spon­sored by A&W Restau­rants. For more info: 604.307.4565.
Over in Philo­math, OR, the 17th Annu­al Philo­math Clas­sic Car Show takes place at the Philo­math City Park. Walk-ins are free and a $30 reg­is­tra­tion fee for those show­ing their cars. The event is spon­sored by the Philo­math Area Cham­ber of Com­merce. For more info: www.philomathchamber.org .
One of the most pop­u­lar spots for car events is the famed Triple XXX Root Beer Dri­ve-In in Issaquah, WA.  This last Triple XXX stand hosts dozens of car meets through­out the year and on July 6th they will be home to the All Chevy and Camaro Show. Free admis­sion to look but it’s $20 to show your auto. Spon­sored by Pacif­ic North­west Camaro Club. For more info: www.pnwcc.com .
If it has been awhile since you’ve cruised to Ren­ton, WA, then the Return To Ren­ton Cruise-In might be some­thing worth attend­ing. The event takes place on Third and Bur­nette in South Ren­ton. If your sta­tus as a pub­lic employ­ee has been affected—if you can’t go to work—we want you to know you’re wel­come to spend your invol­un­tary day(s) off at Mary­mount,” said LFCF Oper­a­tions Direc­tor Trudy Cofchin.

Locat­ed in Taco­ma, the LFCF Mary­mount Event Center—recently named an Offi­cial Best Of Wash­ing­ton® tourism destination—has over 500 vin­tage and col­lec­tor cars, trucks and motor­cy­cles from the LeMay family’s orig­i­nal world-famous col­lec­tion of auto­mo­biles, Amer­i­cana and folk art col­lec­tion, doll col­lec­tion, and the his­toric Mary­mount Chapel.

The 2013 Mahogany & Mer­lot Vin­tage Boat and Clas­sic Car Show is a ‘on-the-water’ boat show Oct 4–6, and new this year, clas­sic cars will be show­cased along with Vin­tage Unlim­it­ed Hydroplanes from the Hydroplane And Race­boat Muse­um in Seat­tle, Vin­tage Inboard ‘Lim­it­ed Class’ Hydroplanes, and Antique & Clas­sic Mahogany Run­abouts from the Gold­en Era of plea­sure boat­ing.

September is another busy month of events including at least one auction, many swap meets, two concours and many car shows throughout the Northwest and western Canada.

Rod Run-2

The week­end of Sept 6–8 includes the ever pop­u­lar Wheels ‘N’ Waves (5–7) at down­town Sea­side, OR plus your choice of two events over the 7th and 8th — the 30th Rod Run to the End of the World with 800 cars at the tip of Washington’s longest penin­su­la, at  Ocean Park, WA. Amer­i­can Graf­fi­ti Trib­ute with cars from the movie and Can­dy Clark  “Deb­bie Durham”  will be on the field as a spe­cial guest.

Sept 8 is the  11th Annu­al Kirk­land Con­cours at LeMay Muse­um in Taco­ma, WA.


CCCA-Linke's Mercedes

As it cel­e­brates its 11th anniver­sary, the Kirk­land Con­cours d’Elegance begins it’s sec­ond year on Sept 8 at the LeMay – America’s Car Muse­um, in Taco­ma. Fea­tur­ing a nine-acre cam­pus – with a four-sto­ry muse­um as the cen­ter­piece – LeMay-ACM, in the shad­ow of Mt. Rainier 30 min­utes south of Seat­tle, is one of the world’s largest auto muse­ums. This fam­i­ly-ori­ent­ed event is regard­ed as one of the pre­mier con­cours events in the coun­try. Also on the Sept 7–8 is British Columbia’s extrav­a­gan­za event, the LUXURY & SUPERCAR WEEKEND which includes Shaugh­nessy Con­cours d’Elegance


For the fourth time in Cana­da this lifestyle week­end is the Nation’s finest two day out­door show­ing of Lux­u­ry & Super­cars. The 2013 event once again offers a unique up-close and per­son­al oppor­tu­ni­ty to view the world’s most impor­tant exam­ples of auto­mo­tive achieve­ments.

Each car on dis­play is hand­picked by the Con­cours d‘Elegance selec­tion com­mit­tee. Auto­mo­tive enthu­si­asts of rare lux­u­ry super­cars, vin­tage col­lectibles, electric/hybrid and con­cept cars will get the chance to view auto­mo­biles that are nor­mal­ly dis­played only at select elite inter­na­tion­al auto­mo­tive events.

Oregon Festival of Cars-1


The week­end of Sept 13–15 in Bend, OR is Ore­gon Fes­ti­val of Cars cel­e­brat­ing many won­der­ful anniver­saries of favorite mar­ques… the 50th for Porsche 911 and Lam­borgh­i­ni, the 60th anniver­sary for Corvette and the 100th for Aston Mar­tin!  Includes a Sun­day “dash” dri­ve.




The Salem Auto Club Council’s Mount Angel Okto­ber­fest Cruz-N-Car Show in Mt. Angel, OR (503 588 1932) and two near­by events in con­trast mar­ques — the Apple Val­ley Volk­swa­gen Assn’s Volks­fest 2013 in Mox­ee, WA and the Ponies in the Sun Car Show in Yaki­ma, WA.



Spokane Valley-2-


Sin­gle day events on the 14th range from the High Plains Clas­sics Car Show in Miles City, MT (406 951 1807), the 4th Annu­al Cruise to His­toric Down­town Ore­gon City, OR;  while in Wash­ing­ton, on the 14th, are the stu­dent-com­mu­ni­ty Renais­sance Auto Show host­ed by the Aberdeen High School Renais­sance Team. (Ed. note: Last minute word: the Renais­sance Show has been can­celled)


Arlington Drag Reunion


Also on the 14th, the infa­mous Arling­ton (WA) Drag Strip Reunion & Car Show at the air­port;



Auto Angels-1-

The pop­u­lar  Auto Angels 7th Annu­al Ben­e­fit Car Show, Belle­vue, WA, in addi­tion a bevy of clas­sics, mus­cle and oth­er col­lec­tor cars on Sept 14, the show will have fea­ture two groups. A dis­play of Belle­vue High School Auto Pro­gram fea­tur­ing seniors who have com­plet­ed this pro­gram and pass the ASE test and then are qual­i­fied to go direct­ly into work for a car deal­er or oth­er auto­mo­tive busi­ness.

The sec­ond inter­est­ing group is a Team from the UW Mechan­i­cal Engi­neer­ing pro­gram and the SAE com­pe­ti­tion will be bring­ing at least one of their cars.  One car was tak­en to Ger­many for the Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion and placed 7th and 1st place at the FSAE com­pe­ti­tion in Lin­coln NE..  This is the gas pow­ered car, referred to as the cCar.  READ MORE in Stu­dent Cars.


Sep 14 - Chelan, WA; Fall in Lake Chelan Car Show & Cruise by the Lak­ers Car Club, of course.

The Stra­tocruis­ers hold their Cruise Into Fall in down­town Enum­claw, WA; while the NW GTO Leg­ends offer up the newest North­west show — Amer­i­can Mus­cle Car Show at Gri­ots Garage, Taco­ma, WA


West Seattle

Sun­day, the 15th — in Eagle, ID, the 2nd Annu­al Shriner’s Run for Chil­dren for bik­ers and in Belling­ham, WA,  it’s the Speed and Chrome Show at Hill­crest Chapel (360 220 3578) and the West Seat­tle Junc­tion Car Show at the cen­ter of it all in, of course, West Seat­tle neigh­bor­hood.



The Sept 21 week­end con­tin­ues to be busy with Gold­en­dale, WA’s Fes­ti­val of Wheels (watch for their Con­cours d’ Mary­hill in Octo­ber); Kit­sap County’s Key­port Fest Show and Shine in Key­port, WA

Spokane Valleyand across the state in Spokane Val­ley, WA the Val­leyfest Car Show.

Sept 21 also includes the Brack­et­stars Block Par­ty Rod­ders  Appre­ci­a­tion Free Car Show as part of Gator Fest at Green Riv­er Com­mu­ni­ty Col­lege in Auburn.WA.

For farm equip­ment enthu­si­asts and great fam­i­ly fun, there are two events: Lux­ton Antique Farm Equip­ment Club Annu­al Swap Meet in Lang­ford, BC on Sept 21, and the two-day Trac­tor Pull and Swap Meet on Sept 21–22 near Port Orchard, WA.

At Coos Bay-North Bend, OR  the Cruz the Coos/Shore Acres Show n’ Shine on Sept 21 (this is new date) and SOVREN’s vin­tage rac­ing winds up the year at Pacif­ic Race­ways on Sept 21–22 with the Fall Finale Vin­tage Sports Car Races.




The final events of Sep­tem­ber are the Greater Van­cou­ver Motor Sports Pio­neer Society’s Induc­tion Cer­e­mo­ny who rec­og­nize the con­tri­bu­tions of those who were pio­neers of motor­sport in west­ern Cana­da — held in Sur­rey, BC on Sept 28


Of spe­cial note to Ore­gon car enthu­si­asts and Mer­cury own­ers & fans:
