Griots-Lauda -Ferrari-October 2013

Rescuing, restoring and sharing a legendary race car

Here are two extremely rare opportunities to see two of the most successful cars of the mid-seventies Formula One seasons.

(See also about the movie “RUSH” , a film review, and background about Niki Lauda HERE)

If you have not visited the event center showroom at Griots Garage in Tacoma before, you’ll want to put it on your “to do” list soon. At least you’ll want to visit the upcoming Seattle Auto Show. Richard Griot, the principal driver behind the successful Griots Garage auto care products, has accumulated an outstanding collection of vintage race cars and collector cars. Many are rotated on display at their beautiful headquarters and retail outlet in Tacoma.

lauda for press release

Now, with all the attention of the movie “Rush” and the Lauda Ferrari, Griots offers two opportunities to view the Lauda Ferrari raced in F1 and featured in the movie. First, coming up at the Seattle Auto Show, Niki Lauda’s 1975 Ferrari 312T-022 will be displayed along with the 1977 McLaren M23-12 driven by Jochen Mass in the same historic era of F1 racing,

We are assured that following the Seattle Auto Show, and once the restoration is completed the Ferrari will then be displayed at their event center showroom along with many significant vintage racers.

The Seattle Auto Show is October 16-20 at CenturyLink Events Center (think Seahawks stadium). The racers are display in booth N3. More info about the Seattle Auto Show is HERE, and their website is HERE.

History of the vehicles:

1975 Ferrari 312T, Chassis 022

This is THE car that Niki Lauda, one of the two highlighted drivers for the newly release movie “Rush”, won the 1975 World Championship for Ferrari.

By 1975, the 312T Ferrari was the car to beat. It featured a transverse-mounted gearbox that was positioned ahead of the rear axle for vastly improved handling. In all, Ferrari 312T cars went on to win 27 races, four Constructors’ Championships, and three Drivers’ Championships over their history.

Chassis 022 is currently undergoing a full concours restoration at Griot’s Garage facility in Tacoma, Washington, not far from the Tacoma Mall.

1977 McLaren M23, Chassis 012

Debuting in 1973, the M23 displayed incredible longevity, racing competitively for 5 ½ years. This is the same model raced by James Hunt in his epic battle with Niki Lauda for the 1976 Drivers’ Championship (backdrop for the movie “Rush”).

Chassis 012 was piloted exclusively by Jochen Mass in 1977. It is currently on display at Griot’s Garage in Tacoma except while exhibited during the Seattle Auto Show.
